The wool in SAFE garments is treated with Zirpro- at the molecular level, which gives permanent flame-retardant properties. When the wool burns, a thin layer of charcoal forms instead of the usual fine ash. This layer gives the skin additional protection from heat. The layer with flame-proof Nomex® forms an additional protective layer between wool and skin, providing even more resistance. The combination of Zipro- treated wool and
Nomex® provides optimal protection because the skin is kept as dry
as possible. This is particularly important because water and moisture
conduct heat, which can result in severe burns even if |

the outer garments
have not been burnt through. Our fabrics did not produce glowing embers or perforate in combustion tests carried out by the Hohenstein Institute in Germany. The tests were carried out in accordance with SS-EN 532. The test results also won our garments approval by the same institute in accordance with EN 469 (0595), Protective Clothing for Firefighters. The institute is approved by DAP (Deutsches Akkreditierungssystem Prüfwesen). Our development work is in constant progress with bodies such as the Hohenstein Institute for Textile Research in Germany and also with specialists in flame-retardant fabrics. |
